Easy and Delicious Zuppa Soup Homemade

When talking about Italy, most people immediately think of pizza and pasta — two iconic dishes that have gained worldwide popularity and are now available almost everywhere, including in Indonesia. Italian dining has become more accessible than ever, so enjoying pasta or pizza no longer requires traveling across the globe.

However, Italy's culinary heritage is far more diverse than just those two dishes. One unique and delicious Italian food that you must try is Zuppa Soup — a creamy, comforting soup topped with flaky puff pastry. Although not yet as well-known in Indonesia, this dish has a long cultural history and is a favorite in its home country.

A Brief History of Italian Zuppa Soup

Zuppa Soup has existed since ancient times in Italy. The original version is known as Zuppa Soup alla Pavese, believed to have originated around the year 1525 in Lombardy. Historical stories tell that after a fierce battle involving France, Spain, and Switzerland, a hungry Italian king requested a warm, filling meal — and this soup was born.

The recipe has been passed down for centuries, and today Zuppa Soup is enjoyed not only in Italy, but also in many parts of the world. Its creamy texture, rich filling, and golden pastry topping make it an unforgettable comfort meal.

The good news? You don’t need to go to Italy to taste authentic Zuppa Soup — you can make it right at home!

1. Make the Puff Pastry

Refrigerate for 30 minutes to get flakes when baked.

2. Cook the Cream Soup

Melt butter in a pan.

Add flour and stir continuously.

Pour milk gradually while stirring to prevent lumps.

Add cheese, pepper, and stock powder.

If the mixture is too thick, add water slowly.

Add the cooked filling and turn off the heat.

3. Assemble & Bake

Pour cream soup into a heat-resistant cup or bowl.

Cover the top with puff pastry dough.

Brush with egg mixture to make it golden when baked.

Bake at 180°C for 30 minutes, using top & bottom heat.

Serve warm for maximum flavor and crispiness.

Final Result: Warm, Flaky, and Creamy Zuppa Soup

When removed from the oven, the puff pastry will rise beautifully, creating a crispy golden crust that pairs perfectly with the rich cream soup underneath. This Zuppa Soup is perfect for family meals, gatherings, or a comforting evening snack.
